Navy Helicopter Crash Death of Sarah F. Burns – Obituary
Hospital Corpsman 2nd Class Sarah F. Burns of Severna Park has been identified as one of the 8 Navy sailors killed when a Navy chopper crashed into the Pacific Ocean on Tuesday, August 31, 2021. It occurred off the coast of Southern California during what was described as a routine flight from the USS Abraham Lincoln.
Initially, the Navy launched a rescue mission to save the sailors after the accident. Only one crew member was saved and the operation was later shifted from a rescue mission to a recovery mission. This was after the Navy formally declared the 8 crew members dead.
Officials have so far named 5 deceased crew members. Apart from Burns, the other 4 were identified as:
Lt. Bradley A. Foster, 29, a pilot from Oakhurst, California
Lt. Paul R. Fridley, 28, a pilot from Annandale, Virginia
Naval Air Crewman (Helicopter) 2nd Class James P. Buriak, 31, from Salem, Virginia
Hospital Corpsman 3rd Class Bailey J. Tucker, 21, from St. Louis, Missouri
