West Mifflin House Fire Death of Couple Carl Bajus and Victoria Bajus – Obituary

Carl Bajus and Victoria Bajus have died in a fatal West Mifflin house fire that occurred on Thursday, October 14, 2021, at about 4 a.m. Crews arrived at the scene to find the house already burning strong. They were withdrawn from the house when the roof started caving in.

Once the fire was put out, crews located Victoria lying dead on the second floor. Carl’s body was hard to retrieve from the debris. The burned house had to be cleared layer by layer and at one point, a backhoe was used to cut down the trees that were making access to the scene difficult.

The weather was also foggy at the time and this made the operation extra difficult.

Neighbor Debbie Stanton said she sensed smoke but because most people use fireplaces in the neighborhood, she did not think much of it. She was later called and woken up by a neighbor who saw flames and fire trucks.

This is a fresh investigation and the cause of the blaze has not been established yet.
