Kent County shooting death of Grand Rapids Inn security guard, John Cain – Obituary

38-year-old Grand Rapids Inn security guard, John Cain, has died in a fatal Kent County shooting that occurred on Tuesday, November 2, 2021. Police have named 21-year-old Jacob Grygorzyk as the shooter. He later killed himself at his mother’s house.

Jacob and another person were guests at the Grand Rapids Inn when John went to their room to ask them to leave due to what he described as unruly behavior.

During the quarrel, Jacob produced a weapon and opened fire at John, leaving him with severe bullet wounds. Officers say he was pronounced dead at the scene.

After shooting John, Jacob fled to his mother’s house which is located in the area of the hotel. Officers were around the area of Grand Rapids Inn when they heard shots fired and went to the location.

Later, Jacob’s mother called 911 to report that he found his son dead in a room.

The shooting remains under investigation.
