Cherryville death of Catalina Grill hostage suspect Chucky Nathaniel Bowden – Obituary

53-year-old Catalina Grill hostage suspect Chucky Nathaniel Bowden has died in a fatal Cherryville officer shooting that occurred on Thursday, November 18, 2021. It happened when Chucky held hostages at gunpoint after running from police.

Chucky robbed a woman at gunpoint at an HVAC business located on Earl Road in Cleveland County. He stole her phone and wedding ring among other things.

Officers were able to locate Chucky using the cellphone he stole from the woman. He was located and police initiated a pursuit which only ended when Chucky crashed his vehicle on Highway 279 near Dick Beam Road in Gaston County.

He fled on foot and was later found at the Catalina Grillon Tryon Courthouse Road at Coho Road in Bessemer City. He was holding customers and employees hostage with a gun.

Officers arrived and negotiated with him but ultimately failed until they were forced to open fire at Chucky. He was pronounced dead at the scene of the shooting. No officer or civilian was injured in the encounter.
