Shooting death of Lionel Womack a former Kansas City police detective – Obituary

36-year-old Lionel Womack, a former Kansas City police detective has died in an officer shooting that occurred on Monday, November 22, 2021. It happened at about 2:30 when officers responded to calls about a man acting strangely on the street.

The caller said the man attempted to jump in front of the vehicle. Lionel was seen pointing at the sky, into nothing.

Officer arrived at the scene but a struggle for the officer’s gun ensued, resulting in the weapon going off. Lione was struck, leaving him with a severe bullet wound.

He was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. The incident was captured on body cam and remains under investigation as the officer remain on administrative leave.
