Limestone County car crash death of Deontae Demar Townsend – Obituary

The man killed in a crash on Interstate 65 in Limestone County early Wednesday has been identified by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.

According to authorities, Deontae Demar Townsend, 31, of Athens, was killed after the 2003 Chevy Silverado he was driving got stalled in the roadway due to a prior incident and was then slammed by a 2019 Freightliner tractor-trailer.

At the scene, Townsend was pronounced deceased.

The accident happened at 5:07 a.m. Wednesday on Interstate 65 near mile marker 355, roughly one mile north of Athens.

I-65 northbound lanes were closed for roughly three hours Wednesday morning between exits 351 (AL-2) and 361 (Sandlin Road).

Troopers are still investigating the collision.
