Washington Cambria Co. train-car crash death of Diana Lynn Hoover – Obituary
According to officials, Diana Lynn Hoover from the Ebensburg region was killed Wednesday night when her vehicle was hit by a train as she attempted to beat the oncoming locomotive over the tracks.
Diana Lynn Hoover, 66, died at the site of the collision in Washington Township around 9:20 p.m.
Cambria County Coroner Jeffrey Lees said Hoover was driving a car on Carneys Crossing Road when she attempted to cross the rails.
The approaching train activated the automated electronic warning gates, trapping the car.
The twin-locomotive train, weighing 800,000 pounds, crashed into the driver’s side at 50 mph, killing Hoover instantaneously, according to Lees.
