Bakersfield police shooting death of Jesus Javier Aleman of Shafter – Obituary
The Kern County Coroner’s Office named the man who was shot and killed by Bakersfield police officers after he fled and fired at them on Wednesday, April 20, 2022, as Jesus Javier Aleman of Shafter.
According to the coroner’s office, Jesus Javier Aleman, 33, of Shafter, was shot by a Bakersfield police officer in the 1600 block of Planz Road and died at the scene from his injuries.
Aleman was a passenger in a car that BPD officers claimed they attempted to stop. According to BPD, two officers attempted to stop a maroon Chevrolet Tahoe at Planz Road and South H Street around 12:20 a.m.
Instead of coming to a complete stop, the car drove off and smashed into a post in Planz Park shortly afterward.
The truck’s driver was apprehended right away. According to BPD, Aleman escaped on foot, leading an officer on a foot pursuit. According to officers, Aleman pulled out a weapon and shot at the officer. According to the BPD, the officer returned fire, striking the suspect.
Officials added that while life-saving measures were performed, the suspect died at the spot.
