Sacramento shooting death of Jesus Mejia Cruz – Obituary

Sacramento County officials have disclosed the identity of a man who was shot and killed in a  fatal Sacramento shooting that occurred on Monday, April 18, 2022.

Jesus Mejia Cruz was shot in the evening hours at a busy park in Fair Oaks, shortly before another person pursued down and shot the accused gunman in Citrus Heights.

According to the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office, Jesus Mejia Cruz, 30, of Citrus Heights, was murdered in the shooting in Fair Oaks Park. Jerzain Trenado Orozco, 41, of Citrus Heights, was shot on the north side of neighboring Madison Avenue and subsequently died in the hospital.

Several 911 callers reported the initial gunfire near the park at 11549 Fair Oaks Boulevard, just west of the Sacramento Public Library Fair Oaks branch. When shooting erupted in the park, a number of guys gathered there.

A man, now identified as Orozco, walked up to the group, pulled out a gun and fired, targeting Cruz, Sacramento County sheriff’s spokesman Sgt. Rodney Grassmann has said. Cruz was later pronounced dead at the park. Grassmann said the suspected gunman then ran through the park, heading north across Madison Avenue.

The second shooting that killed Orozco occurred in front of a housing complex on Madison Avenue near Ventana Place in Citrus Heights after he was chased down by at least one unidentified armed person who shot him multiple times, Citrus Heights police spokesman Lt. Jason Baldwin has said.
