Elba helicopter crash death of Pilot James Sauer and Stewart Dietrick of Texas – Obituary
According to state police and the transport business, a medical helicopter pilot and flight instructor were killed in an accident Tuesday during a training trip in western New York. They were identified as pilot James Sauer and flight instructor Stewart Dietrick of Texas.
According to Maj. Eugene Staniszewski, the Mercy Flight helicopter went down at 1 p.m. in the Genesee County hamlet of Elba, which is roughly midway between Buffalo and Rochester. No patients were on the helicopter when the accident happened.
Mercy Flight, located in Buffalo, identified the pilot as James Sauer, a retired New York State Police pilot. State authorities identified the flight instructor as Stewart Dietrick of Texas, who worked for the helicopter manufacturer.
The wreck is under investigation.
