William Joseph Weiler has been identified as the suspected arsonist killed by a CHP officer on Friday, May 6, 2022. The shooting happened in Rosamond, Kern County.

CHP officers were dispatched to Highway 14 and Rosamond Boulevard on May 6 for reports of a person igniting fires along the highway. William Joseph Weiler, 53, of Rosamond, was challenged by two cops.

Weiler allegedly attempted to assault the cops with a sharp weapon, according to KCSO. According to officials, a cop used a Taser on him, but it was useless. An officer then shot a firearm, striking Weiler, but he continued to struggle, according to police.
