El Paso County Colo. shooting death of Deputy Andrew Peery – Obituary

Deputy Andrew Peery has been identified as the person killed in a fatal El Paso County Colo. shooting that occurred on Sunday, August 7, 2022.

The investigation encompassed several agencies, and according to the Colorado Springs Police Department, it started with law enforcement responding to a 911 call of a gunshot at roughly five o’clock in the evening. Other local residents who had heard gunfire also called 911 and reported it.

One Fountain Police Department officer and two deputies from the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office responded. When they arrived, the suspect, subsequently identified as 33-year-old John Paz, was firing shots at them.

Peery, a responding deputy, was shot by a gunshot and suffered “severe injuries,” according to the police. Law enforcement returned fire on Paz, and then they started doing anything to save Peery’s life.

Peery was taken by ambulance to the hospital, but he later passed away from his wounds.

Other deputies and police officers who were on the site discovered a deceased lady in the house’s front yard. Paz was discovered dead inside the house by the police after what seemed to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Although the El Paso County Coroner’s Office will determine an official cause of death for each of the three, police indicated that Peery and the woman’s deaths are being looked into as possible murders by Paz.
