Fatal Waldport car crash death of Alex Gomez – Obituary
WALDPORT, Oregon — Tragedy struck on Thursday along Highway 101 in Waldport, just north of the Alsea Bay Bridge, as a man lost his life and another was hospitalized following a harrowing collision.
The incident unfolded around 2:15 p.m. when an ill-fated maneuver occurred. A driver behind the wheel of a Dodge Ram pickup made a left turn onto Highway 101 from Bayview Road, directly intersecting the path of an oncoming motorcyclist traveling northbound.
The consequences were catastrophic as the motorcycle collided with the pickup, resulting in a fiery inferno. Thankfully, quick action was taken by an Oregon State Police trooper who arrived promptly, extinguishing the raging flames that threatened further devastation.
Tragically, the motorcyclist, identified as 27-year-old Alex Gomez hailing from Toledo, met his untimely demise at the crash site.
In the wake of the calamity, James Semrau, a 62-year-old resident of Eugene and the driver of the ill-fated pickup, was transported to the hospital, bearing minor injuries.
Oregon State troopers took swift action, closing down the highway for approximately three hours to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the incident’s underlying causes, which are still under scrutiny.
During this trying period, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, Seal Rock Fire, Central Coast Fire, and the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) rallied together to provide vital assistance in responding to this devastating collision.
