In a tragic incident near Desert Hot Springs, a devastating motorcycle mishap claimed the life of 68-year-old Cheryl McCoy, a resident of Phoenix, Arizona, as confirmed by the Riverside County coroner’s office.
The calamity unfolded when law enforcement received a distress call at 11:24 a.m. on Thursday, reporting a lone motorcycle mishap on the westbound lanes of Interstate 10, near the Palm Drive exit, as per the California Highway Patrol.
The ill-fated ride involved a 63-year-old man and a 68-year-old woman, both aboard a green Harley-Davidson motorcycle, towing a small trailer at an approximate speed of 70 mph, according to David Torres, the Public Information Officer of the California Highway Patrol.
Tragedy struck when the man executed an unsafe left turn, leading to a loss of control and the motorcycle overturning violently into the freeway’s center divider.
The force of the crash ejected both riders from their motorcycle, resulting in severe injuries. They were swiftly transported to the Desert Regional Medical Center, with the woman’s condition being particularly critical.
Tragically, Cheryl McCoy succumbed to her injuries at 12:58 p.m. on Thursday, as confirmed by the coroner’s officials.
