In a tragic incident near Pawnee and Woodlawn on Wednesday afternoon, the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office has sadly confirmed the passing of Jziya Bryant, who was the driver of a Cadillac involved in a two-vehicle collision.
Alongside this heartbreaking loss, a 17-year-old passenger in the same car and the driver of the pickup truck that the Cadillac collided with sustained injuries of a “moderate” nature, according to a sheriff’s lieutenant who was present at the scene.

Upon clarification from initial reports, the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office has officially stated that the incident, which left three individuals injured, one in critical condition, did not involve any of its deputies.
According to Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Lt. Matthew Lynch, the incident occurred at approximately 4:40 p.m. when a deputy was conducting radar operations near the intersection of Pawnee and Woodlawn.
The deputy bore witness to the catastrophic collision when a westbound Cadillac, traveling at an excessive speed, crossed the center line near Pawnee and Woodlawn, ultimately colliding with an eastbound pickup truck.
Tragically, the driver of the Cadillac sustained critical injuries, marking a devastating loss for the community. In addition, a 17-year-old passenger in the Cadillac and the driver of the pickup truck suffered injuries described by Lynch as “moderate” in severity.
