Fatal Waldport car crash death of Alex Gomez – Obituary
A tragic incident unfolded on Thursday along Highway 101 in Waldport, just north of the Alsea Bay Bridge, resulting in the loss of one life and another individual hospitalized.
The unsettling event occurred at approximately 2:15 p.m., when a Dodge Ram pickup made a left turn onto Highway 101 from Bayview Road, directly intersecting the path of a northbound motorcyclist.
In a devastating collision, the motorcycle struck the pickup, causing a fierce blaze to erupt. Fortunately, an Oregon State Police trooper arrived swiftly at the scene and courageously extinguished the flames.
Despite these heroic efforts, the motorcycle rider, 27-year-old Alex Gomez hailing from Toledo, tragically lost his life at the scene.
The driver of the ill-fated pickup, James Semrau, aged 62, and a resident of Eugene, sustained minor injuries but was promptly transported to the hospital for medical attention.
The highway remained closed for approximately three hours as state troopers diligently investigated the crash, with the exact cause yet to be confirmed.
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, Seal Rock Fire, Central Coast Fire, and ODOT rallied together to respond to the distressing incident, demonstrating the dedication of first responders in such challenging situations.
