Brent Conrad succumbs to fatal shooting on the Wando River bridge in Berkeley County.

Obituary – Tragic demise of Brent Conrad, a resident of Huger, aged 37, on the Wando River bridge in Berkeley County.

In a heart-wrenching incident, Brent Conrad, hailing from Huger, met his unfortunate end on Friday on the I-526 bridge spanning the Wando River. The Berkeley County Coroner’s Office has confirmed his identity.

The grim turn of events transpired during a confrontation between Conrad and law enforcement officers.

At approximately 11:30 a.m., deputies made an attempt to apprehend Conrad, but he chose to evade them, initiating a ten-minute, eight-mile-long pursuit.

The pursuit reached its conclusion when Conrad’s vehicle came to a halt on the westbound lanes of I-526, situated atop the Wando River bridge.

As deputies approached Conrad’s vehicle, Sheriff Duane Lewis disclosed that the suspect discharged multiple rounds of gunfire, prompting the deputies to respond in kind. Thankfully, both deputies involved in the altercation emerged unscathed.

At present, the party responsible for the fatal shot remains undetermined, leaving many unanswered questions in its wake.

Sheriff Lewis, in a press statement, stated, “The motive behind the shooting remains elusive. Fortunately, the deputies did not sustain any injuries, and I have personally spoken to both of them. They are in good health.”

To shed light on the circumstances surrounding Brent Conrad’s tragic demise, an autopsy has been slated for Monday. It is hoped that this examination will provide insight into the cause and manner of his untimely death.
