Fatal Hockley County car crash death of Daniel Alvarado – Obituary

In a tragic incident occurring on Thursday afternoon, September 7, 2023, Daniel Alvarado, aged 66, lost his life in a single-vehicle rollover accident on US 62, approximately six miles north of Ropesville.

The unfortunate event transpired around 4:45 p.m. on a cloudy day, along a dry, paved road in Hockley County.

The vehicle involved, a 2014 Isuzu Ascender, inexplicably veered off course, drifting across the outer westbound lane into the western ditch, according to preliminary findings from the police, who responded swiftly to the scene.

As the vehicle continued its tragic trajectory, it entered into a leftward skid, subsequently rolling over multiple times before finally coming to a halt in an inverted position, facing northeast, situated on the east side of the nearby railroad tracks.

The driver, Santiago Miranda, aged 69 and hailing from Brownfield, Texas, and another passenger, Felix Cerna, aged 73, a resident of Lubbock, both suffered severe injuries during the incident. They were quickly transported to UMC in Lubbock for medical attention.

Notably, both individuals were securely fastened with seat belts at the time of the calamitous crash, which may have played a crucial role in mitigating their injuries.

Regrettably, Daniel Alvarado, the 66-year-old passenger from Brownfield, Texas, met a tragic fate. He was not wearing a seatbelt and was tragically ejected from the vehicle as it careened out of control. Despite the immediate response of emergency services, Mr. Alvarado was declared deceased at the scene by Hockley County Justice of the Peace, Wendi McNabb.

The Texas Department of Public Safety has initiated an investigation into the incident, aiming to shed light on the circumstances that led to this unfortunate loss of life on that fateful Thursday afternoon.
