Fatal Revelstoke police shooting death of Garry Pashe Jr. – Obituary
The identity of the individual who met a tragic demise in the aftermath of an encounter with law enforcement in Revelstoke has been unveiled by his sister.
Mellisa Pashe, the sister of the deceased, has disclosed that her brother, Garry Pashe Jr., a 24-year-old resident hailing from Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, was the unfortunate victim of the incident involving police action in Revelstoke on August 27. She conveyed this sorrowful revelation in a heartfelt Facebook post.
In her emotional post, Mellisa Pashe expressed her desire for her brother not to be perceived merely as a statistic, a violent offender, or an anonymous male who met his end through police intervention.
The fateful incident transpired when the Revelstoke Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) received a distress call concerning a stolen vehicle.
Promptly responding to the report, officers successfully located the stolen vehicle and tactfully employed a patrol car to obstruct the path of the suspect.
When the fleeing SUV came to a halt, the individual abruptly disembarked and attempted to evade the police on foot, ultimately gaining entry into a police vehicle.
Tragically, during this tense situation, an officer discharged their firearm, and as a result, the individual succumbed to his injuries later at the hospital.
The Independent Investigations Office (IIO), an autonomous organization tasked with overseeing police conduct, has assumed responsibility for the investigation into this deeply regrettable occurrence.
It is noteworthy that this marks the 27th police-involved shooting incident under the purview of the IIO, a record high for the period spanning from March 2022 to March 2023. Presently, the investigations into at least three-quarters of these cases remain ongoing, as confirmed by the IIO.
