In a recent announcement by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, the victim of the unfortunate incident that occurred on September 2nd in Faribault has been identified as Jerrell Bryan Skelton, a 36-year-old individual.
Remarkably, no visible injuries were detected on Skelton’s person at the time of the incident. To ascertain the precise cause of his untimely demise, the medical examiner awaits the results of toxicology tests.
As previously reported, the Faribault police initiated a traffic stop around 11:53 p.m. on September 2nd at the junction of West Division Street and Fourth Street Northwest, targeting a suspected impaired driver.
However, instead of complying with the signal to halt, the driver continued to operate the vehicle at reduced speeds.
Skelton’s behavior behind the wheel raised concerns as he seemed to drift in and out of consciousness during the pursuit, according to the Faribault police account.
In an attempt to bring the situation under control, law enforcement officers executed a PIT maneuver to immobilize the vehicle and take Skelton into custody.
Subsequently, medics were promptly summoned to assess his condition, and they determined that he was fit for transportation to Rice County Jail. Regrettably, during the journey to the detention facility, Skelton became unresponsive.
In a frantic bid to save his life, officers urgently requested an ambulance and administered CPR and Narcan. Despite their best efforts, Skelton ultimately succumbed to his condition while at the hospital, as confirmed by the police.
This tragic incident was captured on both body-worn and dashboard cameras, providing crucial evidence for the ongoing investigation.
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is diligently probing the circumstances surrounding Jerrell Bryan Skelton’s demise. Upon the conclusion of the investigation, the agency will present its findings, bereft of any recommendations, to the Rice County Attorney’s Office.
