Fatal Somerset Motorcycle Crash Death of Kourtny DeForitis – Obituary
A tragic incident unfolded in Somerset as Seekonk Patrolwoman Kourtny DeForitis lost her life in a motorcycle crash during the early hours of Saturday.
Seekonk Police Chief David Enos made the sorrowful announcement on Facebook, revealing the identity of the victim in the fatal accident.
DeForitis, who had served with the Seekonk Police Department for nearly three years, was off-duty at the time of the accident. She had been a passenger on the ill-fated motorcycle.
Chief Enos recalled her exemplary service and her significant contributions as a community outreach officer, particularly her warmth and engagement with the youth of Seekonk.
Tragically, DeForitis was not the sole casualty in this devastating crash. The motorcycle’s driver, whose identity remains undisclosed, also lost their life in the collision.
The Somerset Police were alerted to the distressing incident at approximately 1:15 a.m. on Saturday, at a rotary along Route 103.
Upon their arrival at the scene, officers discovered the motorcycle and the two victims lying on the roadway, as recounted by Somerset Police Chief Todd Costa in an official statement.
Preliminary investigations by law enforcement indicate that the motorcycle had entered the rotary in the wrong direction, resulting in the collision with another vehicle.
The man presumed to be the motorcycle’s operator was pronounced dead at the crash site.
DeForitis, on the other hand, was rushed to a nearby hospital by Somerset EMS, where, tragically, she succumbed to her injuries.
The Somerset Police are diligently investigating this fatal crash, aided by the Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis & Reconstruction Section and detectives from the Bristol District Attorney’s Office.
