Obituary: Fatal Delmar Car Crash Death of Wilder Linares-Chilel
Tragedy struck on a Thursday afternoon as Wilder Linares-Chilel, a 27-year-old resident of Laurel, met with a fatal accident just north of Delmar.
The unfortunate incident unfolded at approximately 5:50 p.m. along Bi-State Boulevard, in close proximity to Allen’s Mill Road. Delaware State Police have now disclosed the identity of the victim.
Linares-Chilel’s mode of transportation at the time was a motorized skateboard, an unconventional choice for commuting. It was on that fateful afternoon when he found himself in the path of a Hyundai Tucson. The circumstances surrounding this collision remain shrouded in mystery.
According to the official statement from the Delaware State Police, Linares-Chilel, while skateboarding in the center of the road, suddenly veered towards the right, directly into the trajectory of the oncoming Hyundai Tucson.
In a desperate attempt to evade the pedestrian, the Hyundai driver swerved to the right. Despite the evasive maneuver, fate took a cruel turn, and Linares-Chilel persisted into the northbound lane, where the Hyundai made contact with him.
The impact was devastating. Linares-Chilel collided with the Hyundai’s windshield before being flung off the vehicle, a scene of sheer horror.
The unfolding tragedy did not conclude there. The Hyundai, still in the grip of the chaotic moment, careened further to the right, ultimately crashing into a mailbox on private property.
Following this harrowing sequence of events, emergency responders rushed Linares-Chilel to a nearby hospital in the hopes of saving his life.
Regrettably, his injuries proved insurmountable, and he succumbed to them. The driver of the Hyundai, a 21-year-old woman hailing from Fruitland, Maryland, miraculously emerged from the accident unscathed, spared from the grim fate that befell Linares-Chilel.
The investigation into this tragic collision is ongoing, with many questions left unanswered. The incident prompted a road closure that endured for approximately four hours on that ill-fated Thursday.
