BOZEMAN — On Monday, Gallatin County Sheriff/Coroner Dan Springer unveiled the identities of the individuals who lost their lives in a tragic accident that occurred on Interstate 90, near Manhattan, on September 13, 2023.

The individual behind the wheel of the eastbound vehicle, which veered across the median and collided head-on with a westbound truck, has been identified as 34-year-old Jose Sanchez-Ruiz, a resident of Bozeman. Regrettably, he succumbed to his injuries at the accident scene.

The westbound truck’s driver has been identified as 34-year-old Haley Vicchio-Wilson, also from Bozeman. She tragically lost her life due to the injuries sustained in the collision, despite immediate medical attention at Bozeman Health Deaconess Regional Medical Center.

The official cause of death for both Sanchez-Ruiz and Vicchio-Wilson has been determined as blunt force trauma, and their passing has been classified as accidental.

This devastating incident took place at mile marker 291, situated between Manhattan and Belgrade. Following the collision, the westbound lanes had to be shut down, with traffic redirected off the interstate to allow first responders to manage the situation.

Sheriff Springer extended heartfelt condolences to the friends and families of the two victims on behalf of the Gallatin County Office of the Sheriff/Coroner.
