Fatal Bronwood, Georgia Shooting – Obituary of Gary Bailey III
In a sorrowful turn of events, a double homicide in Bronwood, Georgia, has initiated an active investigation led by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) and Terrell County officials.
The quiet community was shattered by the sound of gunshots, with a resident who opted to remain anonymous recalling hearing approximately five to six shots reverberate through the night around 1 a.m. on a fateful Wednesday.
Alarmed by the gunfire, the concerned neighbor promptly notified the authorities. It is a distressing situation compounded by the fact that the alleged perpetrator, Gary Bailey III, is known to the community as a military veteran grappling with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
Sheriffs from Terrell County received a distressing call on that Wednesday morning from Gary Bailey III, a 27-year-old individual who reported a gruesome act: the shooting of his own grandparents, identified as Donna Bailey and Gary Bailey I. As law enforcement arrived at the scene, they discovered Gary Bailey III sitting on the porch and promptly took him into custody.
Tragically, the scene within the grandparents’ home unveiled a grim reality. Donna Bailey and Gary Bailey I lay lifeless, bearing the harrowing evidence of multiple gunshot wounds. Even their pet cat had not escaped the senseless violence, as it too succumbed to a gunshot wound.
The heartbreaking incident was further exacerbated by the revelation of the neighbor, who had known the grandfather personally. The neighbor disclosed that the alleged perpetrator, Gary Bailey III, had served in the military and grappled with PTSD, adding a layer of complexity to this tragic episode. Additionally, the neighbor lamented that the grandfather had been forced to summon law enforcement on previous occasions due to domestic disputes.
