In a heart-wrenching incident on the Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu, tragedy struck as Niamh Rolston, a promising Pepperdine University student, lost her life.

The fateful occurrence took place on Tuesday, October 17th, at approximately 8:30 p.m. when a 22-year-old Malibu resident, the driver, tragically lost control of his BMW. The vehicle careened into three parked cars before a fatal collision with Niamh Rolston, who was standing at the roadside.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department reported the incident, and the driver was subsequently taken into custody on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence.

However, jail records indicate his release around 7:20 a.m. on Wednesday, citing California Penal Code Section 849(b)-1, allowing for the release of a suspect if there are insufficient grounds for criminal charges. Sheriff’s officials have confirmed that the investigation into this heart-wrenching crash is still ongoing.

The tragic accident unfolded as the 22-year-old was driving a dark gray four-door sedan westward on the Pacific Coast Highway, and Niamh Rolston, a dedicated student, lost her life due to the unfortunate events.
