Fatal South Bend hotel shooting death of Amarion Kirk and Jasani Taylor – Obituary

The South Bend Police Department has disclosed the identities of the two young men who met a tragic end in a shooting incident at a hotel parking lot near the South Bend International Airport on Thursday afternoon.

The victims, Amarion Kirk, aged 20, and Jasani Taylor, aged 22, were fatally shot.

Authorities received an urgent call just prior to 2 p.m. regarding an incident at the Quality Inn & Suites located at 4124 Lincoln Way West. Upon arrival, officers discovered Amarion Kirk and Jasani Taylor in the hotel’s parking area, both suffering from gunshot wounds.

Currently, law enforcement is actively pursuing a suspect who was reportedly last seen fleeing the scene.

South Bend Police Division Chief Tim Lancaster stated, “We possess only a preliminary description at this time, which is why officers in the vicinity are diligently searching for the possible suspect. Given that this incident occurred in the hotel’s lot, we are working to ascertain the suspect’s potential whereabouts, direction of escape, or destination.”

As part of the investigation, the Quality Inn & Suites has been evacuated. Nonetheless, authorities have confirmed that there is no apparent threat to the general public at this point. Rather, it appears that the shooting resulted from a dispute between the suspect and the victims.

Chief Scott Ruszkowski of the South Bend Police assured, “There are many facets to this case, but I can assure you that we will be unwavering in our pursuit of justice where it is warranted.”

Upon our team’s arrival at the scene, police vehicles were scattered throughout the surrounding neighborhoods, actively searching for the alleged gunman.

In this regard, authorities express optimism regarding the eventual identification of the suspect because the incident unfolded in a hotel parking lot equipped with surveillance cameras.

The SBPD violent crimes unit has assumed control of the investigation, and the autopsies for the victims are scheduled for October 21st.
