Fatal Smyrna shooting death of Marthely Theodore – Obituary
In a tragic incident on a Friday afternoon in Smyrna, Georgia, Marthely Theodore, a 26-year-old resident of Smyrna, lost his life. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation reported that the unfortunate event occurred after he allegedly aimed a firearm at officers, leading to them returning fire.
The incident unfolded when Smyrna Police, in collaboration with Cobb Police, responded to multiple reports of an armed individual in the vicinity of Benson Poole Road and Crimson Maple Way around 4:37 p.m. This area is situated near Woodland Falls by Arium Apartments and in close proximity to the Family Dollar store along South Cobb Drive.
Upon arrival at the scene, law enforcement officers made contact with the armed suspect, Marthely Theodore. He failed to comply with verbal commands and pointed his firearm at the officers, forcing them to respond with gunfire, as detailed in a Smyrna Police statement.
Following the shooting, Theodore was swiftly transported to the hospital, while the officers involved emerged unharmed. Updates provided by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to 11Alive on the subsequent Saturday indicated that Theodore was in critical condition. Regrettably, at approximately 10:30 a.m., his condition deteriorated, and he passed away.
